Former Hibernian midfielder John McGinn has been a revelation since he moved to Aston Villa, and the 25-year-old Scottish international largely seems to simply get better and better in our shirt – and he’s now beginning to really impress on the international stage.
Our little Meatball opened his international account back in September as they faced Russia, and he then helped himself to a hattrick against San Marino.
In Saturday’s clash with Cyprus, McGinn found the back of the net once again to restore their lead and send the qualifying points their way – after laying on the assist for their opener.
After a difficult start to Scottish life, and it wasn’t that long ago it seemed there was a core of fans who simply didn’t believe he would good enough for that level, he’s definitely won the vast majority of people over now – although it’s not unfair to say I do wonder how much of the criticism came from disgruntled Celtic fans back then.
